Rates
Most work is billed on a per hour basis, but I am open to discussing flat, per-project rates. On average, an editor can work through 4-7 pages (at 250 words/page) per hour, depending on the level of editing and work required.
There is some overlap in these levels of editing. I am happy to discuss what service is required for your document(s).
Proofreading: $25/hr.
Check spelling, punctuation, grammar, and formatting consistency.Copy-editing: $35/hr.
Clarify meaning. Check for typos, formatting consistency, factual errors. Check sentence structure for coherence and re-write as necessary. Cut length to publishers' requirements or for greater clarity.
Editing: $50/hr.
Substantive or stylistic editing. All of the above, plus rewrite as extensively as required. Polish text so that author's meaning is consistently and coherently conveyed in the desired voice and style.
