About – West Coast Editing Services

About

I’m Anne Correia. I have a bachelor’s degree (with distinction) from Vancouver Island University (2004), and a master’s degree from the University of Victoria (2007). I have been the owner and sole operator of West Coast Editing Services since 2008. My editing experience includes academic, commercial, and personal work. I’m familiar with academic style guides such as MLA, APA, and CMS. I work with documents as small as menus and calendars, and as large as PhD theses and novels.

How it Works:

If you’re interested in working with me, I generally recommend sending a small sample of your work to be edited (e.g., a few paragraphs of a shorter document, or 2-4 pages of a longer document). I will do a sample edit for no charge and return it to you for review. From there, you can decide if you like my suggestions and style of editing, and if you want to move forward. Choosing someone to edit your work can be very personal, and I have no hard feelings if we’re not a fit. However, if it looks like a good fit, we can then discuss details like timeline, budget, and depth of editing. For example, some clients need a keen eye to catch small typos, punctuation and minor grammar errors, while others may want input on content and context or complete re-writing of material. I can adjust what I call my “digging in” to suit your editing needs.

Rates:

For all levels of editing, my hourly rate is $30/hr. Depending on the level of editing required, I generally work through 4-8 pages an hour. A 10-page document that needs proofreading for minor typos and punctuation errors will take much less time than a 10-page document that needs more careful consideration of the content. Sending me some work to sample edit is the best way to figure out your budget. It allows me to time myself and give you an estimate on how long I think it will take to do the entire document.

I’m open to discussing flat rates for larger projects; and I do bill partial hours if you have something very small such as a menu that only needs 1/2 hour to go through.
